May is Better Hearing and Speech Month

This May, Miracle-Ear is celebrating Better Hearing and Speech Month! The purpose of this campaign is to provide you with the opportunity to raise awareness about the positive effect hearing and communication has on our lives! Read on to learn about the many ways you can participate in Better Hearing and Speech Month, from taking steps to protect your hearing to participating in One Day Without Sound!

Appreciate Your Hearing

Our hearing is precious. It connects us with our family and friends. It’s essential for both school and the workplace. It also enhances our life and learning experiences.  It’s important that we do all we can to recognize and appreciate all that our hearing does for us and protect it for the future.

Noise-Induced Hearing Loss

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Communication Disorders, an estimated 26 million Americans have a hearing loss due to noise. Noise-induced hearing loss does not just affect senior citizens, but children and young adults as well. The good news is, noise-induced hearing loss is preventable. Making simple changes can have a big impact long-term: turn down the volume on stereos, limit your time with unsafe sound levels, or wear earplugs.

One Day Without Sound

On Wednesday, May 31, 2017 the Miracle-Ear Foundation recognizes One Day Without Sound. On this day, we encourage you to take the pledge and remove all unnecessary sound from your life. This is to recognize how difficult it is to live with a hearing impairment, as well as consider the ways we can take care of our hearing throughout the year.

One Day Without Sound

Take the Pledge

Taking one day to recognize how difficult it is to have a hearing impairment gives us a chance to consider the ways we take care of our hearing throughout the year, in all types of potentially harmful listening situations.
