Receiver-in-canal hearing aids are similar to BTEs in that the shell sits behind the ear, however, RICs are smaller and more discreet. They have a tiny wire that connects the shell to the receiver, which is housed in a dome or custom ear mold in the ear. This creates a very natural listening experience and better sound control than a BTE. Almost all levels of loss can be treated with a RIC hearing aid.

Because the receiver is located at the end of a small tube, they require more dexterity to place in the ear than a BTE or ITE. The received is also vulnerable to moisture in the ear canal.
