Ken Dahlberg, founder of Miracle-Ear, was an American through and through. At 24, he joined the Army Air Corps and flew cover for the D-Day invasion in Normandy. He was shot down three times, escaped twice and ended the war in a POW camp.
When Ken returned home, he developed the pillow radio for hospital patient's private listening. When his idea was rejected by his employer, his entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and he started a small electronics company in 1948 called Dahlberg Inc.
Shortly thereafter, a team of scientists and Ken invented the first Miracle-Ear hearing aid. They were the first to put a transistor in hearing aids which allowed them to be smaller making the hearing aids nearly invisible. In 1955 they created the first all-in-the-ear hearing aid, meaning they didn't need the long cords to connect the hearing aid receivers to the microphones. Seventy years later, there are over 1,500 Miracle-Ear Centers nationwide dedicated to helping millions of people hear better.
