7 Ways to Recharge for Spring

After the long winter months, many people feel depleted, both physically and mentally. Here are seven ideas for a “springtime recharge” of your body and mind:

Change your diet.


Limit your intake of processed foods, sugar and alcohol, and ramp up the green veggies, fruits, lean proteins, healthy fats and whole grains. Eating a balanced breakfast can help you avoid feeling drained by mid-morning.

Stay active.


Ten to 30 minutes of physical activity every day can improve your mood and make you feel more energized. Choose something you enjoy, such as a walk, running or swimming. Or try a new activity — kayaking or yoga anyone?

Sleep more.


The average adult sleeps only five or six hours per night — a recipe for burning out. If you’re sleep deprived, try going to bed an hour earlier or waking up an hour later, and see how you feel. If that doesn’t work, take a 20-minute daytime nap.

Take a tech break.


Being connected 24/7 may lead to mental fatigue and interfere with quality sleep. In addition, artificial light from computer screens can strain your eyes and cause headaches. Turn your devices at least one hour before bedtime.

No, we’re not talking about social media! Devote time to meaningful, face-to-face conversations with family and friends. Plan group outings that will make everyone smile. Remember, also, that working too many hours can hurt relationships.
