Hearing test steps

A hearing test is a completely painless process but can provide you with a lot of valuable information about the status of your hearing health. Here's what you can expect when you come in for your free hearing evaluation:

The first step to expect at your hearing test involves your hearing health history. Your hearing care professional will discuss with you your history, including changes you've noticed in your hearing, concerns you may have or any past experiences with hearing aids.

Your hearing care professional will look inside your ear canal using a video otoscope. This is to check for common problems such as excessive wax buildup, damage to the eardrum or other conditions which may make it difficult to hear clearly.

This hearing test determines your degree of hearing loss, or what we call your hearing threshold.

Your hearing care professional will test your ability to hear and understand speech in both quiet and noisy environments.

About your hearing test results

Your hearing care professional will then walk you through the results of each section of the hearing test, explaining what it means and how it can be addressed. If your hearing test indicates a hearing loss that could be helped by a Miracle-Ear hearing aid, we’ll let you try out some hearing aids right then, so you can hear firsthand the difference a hearing aid can make for you.

The right solution for you

We’ll carefully explain and show you the specific models of Miracle-Ear hearing aids that might fit your lifestyle and level of hearing loss. Then, if you still wish to proceed, we can even begin the fitting process for your new hearing aids so you can begin hearing better every day.

*Miracle-Ear® lifetime aftercare not included with hearing aids purchased utilizing some insurance benefits.

Frequently asked questions about our hearing test

Our hearing tests are completely free of charge.

You can book an appointment through our website. Once you get to the page, you can type in your zip code to find the closest hearing center to you. Select a location, then choose a time slot that works best for you. Enter your first and last name, as well as your email address and phone number, then click “submit”. You should receive a confirmation email in your inbox within minutes of making your appointment.

A typical in-person hearing test will last approximately 60 minutes.

Our free online hearing test is available on the website. However, online hearing tests cannot provide an accurate assessment of your hearing and are not intended to replace in-person hearing exams. Use the online hearing test to get a general sense of your hearing ability.

We recommend bringing someone you’re close with, such as a friend, spouse, sibling, or parent to your appointment. This way, your hearing care professional can conduct a familiar voice test during the exam.

Insurance is not required for the hearing test because it is free. We can check if your insurance is accepted for hearing aids and discuss payment plans during your appointment.
